If you have a AMD CPU, check the "disable vector optimizations". (Configure Krita > Performance > Advanced tab)

You need to be more specific about what model AMD CPU, because doing that will decrease performance on newer AMD chips like Ryzen. I asked about this a couple months ago and, thanks to info from /u/boudewijnrempt explaining what actions it affects, I was able to confirm that not only does it not help on newer AMD CPUs, it made strokes with large brushes noticably slower for me on an R7 1700.

Configure Krita > Display > under Canvas Graphics Acceleration, select "Direct3D 11 via ANGLE". (This was faster than unchecking the whole Canvas Graphics Acceleration but your mileage may vary.)

I did this and it helped me instantly. I just felt like something wasn't right and compared it to other programs and it felt like krita was had a slight lag. but when I enabled that setting instantly helped.
